The Story of Laura's Name

Tom and I have always thought that we would have a really hard time agreeing on names for our children.  We were pleasantly surprised then when Laura's name was chosen without much difficultly.  After we found out we were having a girl, we went to a cafe in Lausanne to celebrate and talk about names.  We threw out names we liked and the other either vetoed or it went on our list.  We came up with about 20 names to which neither of us were opposed.  Both of us have always liked the idea of naming our kids after family members.  Both of our fathers are named Lawrence (though my dad goes by Larry and Tom's by Ed) and at the cafe Tom said, "we could name her Laura in honor of our dads."  From then on, we never really considered another name.  We went through baby books, but nothing else took our fancy.  We both really liked Laura, but more so, we liked the sentiment behind it.  What better way to name her than after both of her grandfathers?  They are both men we love and respect, but most of all, they love God and seek to serve Him above all.  We hope and pray that Laura will emulate the faith in and devotion to God that her namesakes display.

Here Laura is with both of her grand-daddies.  May she grow up to love them as much as we do!

Catching up on the Blog...

We've been a little busy the last 2 months - as you might can imagine :)  However, things have been going well.  We had Tom's mother and grandmother here for 12 days and then my parents came for two weeks.  It was great to have help and so much fun to see the new grandparents (and great grandparent) with Laura.  After that we were on our own for a bit and then we headed to the US for the holidays.  Now we're back in Switzerland and figuring out how life works on our own.  So far, so good!  Through all the craziness and travel, Laura has been a doll - I couldn't ask for a better baby.  And her smiles and coos would melt any heart; I just can't get enough of her!

Laura's an official US citizen - she has her own passport at 1 month old.  She's already all set to be a world traveler.

 Blurry, but cute.

We traveled back to the US with Dave, Lu and their 3 kids.  They were moving back to the US on this trip and thus had a LOT of luggage.  It wasn't too bad with 4 adults, though to manage all the bags and 4 kids.  Above is us in the Zurich airport with everything.  We put Cambelle on Tom's back just for the picture and afterward she was sad it wasn't a real way to travel.  It was fun to travel with them and have one last hurrah before they left.  We'll miss you guys!
